Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine using moxa, better known as dried mugwort. The moxa is usually rolled into sticks, as you can see above, and then lit to burn on or near the skin. Most of the time the moxa rolls were burned on acupuncture points to allow better circulation throughout the Acupuncture points, also including a smoother flow of blood and qi. there are three different methods of moxibustion, direct scarring, direct non-scarring, and indirect moxibustion. Direct scarring is when a cone of moxa is lit and burned on the skin until it blisters. Direct non-scarring in when the moxa rolls are lit and burned on the skin, but taken off before it blisters. Lastly, indirect moxibustion is when the moxa roll is lit and placed near the skin to heat the acupuncture points.
- Mugwort is also used in seasoning food. (Hopefully it doesn't burn you mouth when you eat it.)
- The literal meaning of moxibustion is "The burning of Mugwort"
- Qi is the energy flow in any living thing.
